Roles and setup

Define each assistant's purpose, inputs, outputs and limits, and make human decision ownership clear.

Define each assistant's purpose, inputs, outputs and limits, and make human decision ownership clear. In these drafts, the owner is the person who may approve, decline, or revise. The word names a role in the method. It is not a description of a particular business.

Give each role one purpose. Separate the person who decides, the role that prepares work, and the role that only records what happened. An observer records. It does not quietly change the work.

A useful role note

  • Purpose

One sentence for why the role exists. If the sentence needs several jobs, it is more than one role.

  • Inputs

What the role may read, and which sources it must keep attached.

  • Outputs

What it may produce. A draft is an output. A decision is not, unless the role is the owner.

  • Limits

Actions the role must not take. Unknown authority stays labelled unknown.

What a reader can check

  • Who is allowed to decide?
  • What may the drafting role produce?
  • What must it not do?
  • What is still unknown?

A defined role is a proposal until a responsible person adopts it. This page does not adopt one for any business, and it does not show that a role has performed the work.

An internal demonstration is not customer proof. This lesson has not been run as a customer job.
